Israeli slogan chanted outside the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv: « We came with paint guns and got lynched »

When it comes to arrogance and sheer lunacy, Israeli wingnuts are in a league of their own:

More than a thousand people demonstrated outside of the Turkish Embassy in Tel Aviv on Thursday.

The protesters shouted anti-Turkish slogans in the wake of the hard line that Turkey has taken against Israel’s role in the Monday deaths of nine activists aboard the Gaza aid flotilla.

The protesters also shouted slogans against Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, calling him a « fascist. » (Jerusalem Post)

Yes, you read correctly: over one thousand Israelis protested in front of the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv denouncing « the hard line » taken by the Turkish government on the killing by Israeli soldiers of nine Turkish citizens on board a Turkish ship boarded by the Israeli navy in international waters…

According to Israeli press reports, a Turkish flag was burnt by the protesters – they deny this though. Slogans were however chanted in support of the Israeli marine commando who killed the nine Turkish activists – again, all of this in front of the Turkish embassy:

Some of the protesters were heard shouting that Turkish Prime Minister Recip Tayyip Erdogan is “a terrorist.”

Media outlets reported that the protesters had set fire to a Turkish flag. Participants in the rally denied the reports, and said they had set fire to a red shirt, not a flag. There were also reports of a smoke bomb hurled at the embassy.

Among the protesters were many fans of the Betar Jerusalem soccer team, who bore the team’s flag as well as Israeli flags and banners condemning terrorism and supporting the IDF. “Shayetet 13, we’re with you,” one banner declared in reference to the IDF commando unit that overcame the Gaza-bound ships and redirected them to Ashdod. (Israel National News)

One sign equalled Turkey’s prime minister Recep Tayyep Erdogan wih Hitler, no less:

One demonstrator equals Erdogan with Hitler. Tel Aviv, Turkish embassy, June 3.

I wonder what Elie Wiesel, Claude Lanzmann and the Yad Vashem institute will make out of this – isn’t this as offensive as the insane negationist drivel?

Other slogans seem taken straight out of The Onion – « We came with paint guns and got lynched« :

Several protests condemning the violent attacks on Navy commandos by activists on board the Gaza flotilla and expressing support for the Navy were held at Israeli university campuses and highway intersections on Tuesday.

On Monday evening, around 500 protesters waving Israeli flags demonstrated outside of the Turkish embassy in Tel Aviv. Protesters chanted slogans in support of the IDF and held up signs which equated the Turkish government with Hamas.

Passing drivers honked in support as protesters called on Israeli tourists to boycott Turkey. One placard mocked advertisements for package vacations to Turkey and carried the message, « Turkey – all inclusive: Firearms, knives, hate and blood! »

Other signs read, « Free Kurdistan, » « Who is responsible for the Armenian genocide, » and, « Since when [do] human rights activists carry weapons?? »

On Tuesday, around 1,000 students protested at the Ben Gurion University in Beersheva. « We came with paint guns and got lynched, » read one sign. Hundreds of students held similar protests at Haifa University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. (Jerusalem Post)

Again, let me recap: one thousand Israeli demonstrators protest in front of the Turkish embassy in Israel at the Turkish reaction to Israel’s killing of nine unarmed Turkish citizens on a Turkish ship sailing in international waters – victimhood gone berserk…
